What is Home Visiting?

The birth of a new child can be a joyous occasion, but it may also be a stressful change for a family. Families in New Mexico deserve to have support during their journey to ensure positive outcomes during the critical and early formative years.

Research has shown that families who have adverse experiences, chronic stress and toxic environments have a direct correlation to the child’s development, readiness for kindergarten and overall wellbeing.

Home visiting is a prevention and promotion program for families. These services are universal, free and offered on a voluntary basis.

A home visitor helps directly support families through their parenting journey with curriculum-based information, developmental assessments and resource referral. This includes regular visits to the home or virtual based visits.

Who is eligible for home visiting with La Luz Family Center?

  • You live in Bernalillo or Sandoval County
  • You are currently pregnant or have a child under 4 ½ years old
  • Our program does NOT require you to be a first-time parent
  • You do not need to face adverse experiences to receive home visiting services. This program is available to all families with different circumstances. Research has shown that all families regardless of income, marital status, education level, lifestyle or experience can benefit from having a home visitor.

Referrals

An unplanned pregnancy can cause financial worries. Many women feel abortion is their only option because they lack support, so we want to fill that gap.

We offer various community referrals so you can confidently continue your pregnancy.
